Mail List

The Giles County Mail List (VaGiles) is hosted by rootsweb as a maillist for any and everyone interested in Giles County genealogy and history.

This mail list is available in mail (L) or digest (D) mode, the instructions for the mail (L) mode are given first. If you wish, you may skip straight to the digest (D) mode.

If you wish to know more about which mode is right for you, a description of each is provided at the beginning of each set of instructions.

Mail (L) ModeThe Mail (L) Mode of this, or any other list hosted by rootwseb, means that each message sent to the Mail List will be forwarded directly to each subscriber as it is received. On a heavy traffic list (which VaGiles is not*) this could mean over 100 individual e-mail messages a day. If you like to read the news as it happens, the Mail (L) Mode is for you.

(*VaGiles presently generates less than 10 messages per week)

To Subscribe to the Mail (L) Mode

If you wish to subscribe to the Giles County Mail List please send a message to the address:

VAGILES-L-request@Rootsweb.com

that contains the word:

SUBSCRIBE
and nothing else.

It is generally recommended to leave the subject line of this message blank, but as some e-mail servers will not allow this, the subject line “subscribe” may be used also.

To Unsubscribe from the Mail (L) Mode

Much as I wish no-one would want to leave the Giles County Mail List, I still feel obligated to give the instructions for doing so. To unsubscribe please send a message to the address:

VAGILES-L-request@Rootsweb.com
that contains the word:

UNSUBSCRIBE
and nothing else.

It is generally recommended to leave the subject line of this message blank, but as some e-mail servers will not allow this, the subject line “unsubscribe” may be used also.

Please note: this unsub message *MUST* be sent from the same address that you used to subscribe. If this is impossible for you to do (due to vanishing servers etc.) please drop me a line showing the address you wish to have unsubscribed.

Digest (D) Mode

The Digest (D) Mode of this, or any other list hosted by rootwseb, means that messages sent to the Mail List will be collected into packets (or digests) and forwarded to each subscriber after that digest reaches a certain size. On a heavy traffic list (which VaGiles is not*) this could mean 1 or more digest packets a day. If you like to limit the number of messages you receive, the Digest (D) Mode is for you.

(*VaGiles presently generates less than 3 digest messages per week)
