Bold Attempt to Burn Home

Some fiend in human form made a very bold attempt to burn the residence of J. W. Carper, who lives about two miles from Pearisburg, Friday night, while the family were asleep. Mr. Carper had placed a considerable amount of wood on his porch and at a late hour of the night some party or parties saturated this wood with kerosene and set fire to it. Mr. Carter was awakened by the fumes before the fire had gained much headway and soon extinguished the flames.

Mr. Carper was in the city yesterday trying to get blood hounds. He has no suspicions as to who the guilty party is.
