Jonathan Tony, great-grandfather of the subject [C. R. McCorkle] on the maternal side, came from Buckingham County, Virginia, in 1780. He built the first brick house in Giles County. It is still standing, and is in a splendid state of preservation. On a payroll for Captain Jouett’s Company of the 7th Virginia Regiment, commanded by Alexander McClanahan, for the month of June, 1777, appears the name of John Tony, farmer.
