Scene Set for Trial of Hans Schmidt
Priest to Begin Fight for Life Tom-Morrow, and Insanity Plea is Likely.
The trial of Hans Schmidt, the confessed murderer of Anna Aumueller, will begin tomorrow before Judge Foster in General Sessions. Assistant District-Attorney Delehanty will conduct the prosecution. Schmidt will be defended by former Judge W. M. K. Olcott, Terence J. McManus and Alphonse Koelble.
The report of the commission which has taken testimony in Germany regarding Schmidt’s sanity before he came to this country will arrive tomorrow on the Majestic. Assistant District-Attorney Deacon Murphy will arrive early next week with information regarding Schmidt which he has been collecting abroad.
A motion by Mr. Koelble for the appointment of another commission to take additional testimony in Germany was denied by Judge Foster today. A special panel of 200 talesmen has been summoned for the trial.
