Dupes Say They Took Priest’s Bogus Bills
Identify Picture of Schmidt as That of Man Who Fleeced Them in March.
Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Oct. 7.- The Rev. Hans Schmidt, the New York murderer, passed 200 spurious $10 certificates here in March and April of this year, according to men who say they were his victims.
Patrick J. Ahearn, United States Secret Service Agent, and Andrew B. Hourigan, Assistant United States District-Attorney, announced today that dupes of the priest have identified his picture as that of the man who circulated the spurious notes. Ahearn also announced he has some of the bogus bills.
Schmidt spent about three weeks here, and so far as the Secret Service man has been able to learn he worked alone.
