The population of Barbadoes is given as:

9,274 white men over 16 years
3,600 boys
8,435 women and girls
“of which one half may be English and the rest Scotch, Irish, French, Dutch, and Jews.”

10,236 negro men
5,827 boys
11,914 women
5,207 girls
“but, forasmuch as there ran a report that these lists were taking in order to a tax on negroes, is of the opinion that one third of the negroes is not given.”
